What makes glazing fire resisting?
Fire-resisting glass is classified for defined integrity and sometimes insulation performance when installed in an appropriate frame or door glazing system. Beads, glazing compounds, liners, fixings and edge cover help the system remain in place during fire exposure.
A stamp on the glass can support identification but does not confirm the surrounding detail, aperture or installation.

Inspection
What glazing defects matter?
Cracks, chips within critical areas, loose or missing beads, movement, damaged seals, unapproved film and uncertain replacement glass can affect evidence or retention. Record the full panel and both faces where accessible.
Do not probe or dismantle a glazing system during a visual check. Where identification or condition is uncertain, refer it to a competent specialist.

Alteration control
Can a vision panel be added or replaced?
Only within a tested or assessed detail suitable for the leaf, rating, aperture, glass and hardware configuration. Cutting a new aperture can remove core material and alter structural behaviour.
Replacement should be specified and installed by people competent for fire-resisting glazing and doorsets. Retain product and installation records with the door register.
