When warning sounds
Follow the emergency plan before touching the controls
Occupants should follow the premises evacuation or residential strategy and call 999 where fire or doubt exists. Do not delay movement while searching for the device or panel.
Only an authorised person following the site procedure should approach a control panel, and only when conditions are safe. A panel indication may help locate a zone but does not establish that no fire exists.
Control meanings
Silence, reset and isolate are not interchangeable
A silence control may stop internal or building sounders while the panel remains in fire condition. Reset attempts to return the system after the cause has been resolved. Isolation or disablement removes part of the protection and can leave people at risk.
Labels and access levels vary. Use the system manual and site procedure; do not enter guessed codes, remove fuses or disconnect batteries.
Silence
Stops a warning output under an authorised procedure; it does not prove safety.
Reset
Returns a cleared system to normal after the cause is understood.
Isolate
Disables a device, zone or output and requires risk control and restoration.
Evacuate
The default life-safety response where the alarm or cause is uncertain.
Household alarms
Use hush only for a confirmed nuisance source and keep protection active
Some alarms provide a temporary hush function. Follow the product instructions, ventilate a confirmed cooking or steam source and remain alert in case warning returns.
Never remove a battery, cover a sensor or detach an alarm because it activates repeatedly. Improve siting or alarm type through competent advice and replace a faulty or expired unit.
Afterwards
Record the cause and confirm normal protection
For workplace or shared systems, record the activation, zone, cause, actions, reset, isolation and restoration. Arrange investigation for faults or repeated unwanted alarms.
Confirm the panel shows normal condition and every temporary disablement has a named owner and deadline. Review the FRA or emergency plan where reliability affects warning or evacuation.
